How to deal with Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter power jack

Problem symptoms:

Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
The battery will not get charged.
When you plug Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
Sometimes, after you replace the Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter jack, you can see that the system board doesn’t get power at all. The battery will not charge and the power LED will not light when you plug in the Acer ac adapter. So, here’s a possible explanation. When a connection between the positive pin and the motherboard breaks (cracks), the power jack gets loose. You can feel it when you plug in the Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter plug. A loose power jack can damage the trace inside the hole in the system board.
In this case everything looks nice and clean on the top side. When you plug in the Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter, you get normal voltage readings between “+” and “-“ pins on the top side, but the power DOESN’T go to the motherboard at all, because there is no connection between the top and bottom sides. Test with a multimeter if there is a connection between the top and the bottom.
Many laptops have a power problem. The battery stops charging when you move the power cord on the Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter DC adapter. When you start moving the cord left to right, the power LED light on the front goes on and off and the battery charge LED goes on and off too.
A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with Acer Aspire 3680 notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by resoldering Acer Aspire 3680 AC Adapter jack on the system board. If it’s still under warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you.
You cannot simply unplug the jack and replace it with another one. You’ll have to unsolder the old jack and solder a new one back on the motherboard. Panasonic less explosive laptop battery brief introduction

Panasonic has begun mass-producing a lithium-ion battery for laptops that's rather more capacious charge-wise than current offerings.

The battery is built to the so-called "18650" form-factor, which is the standard size - 65mm in length, 18mm in diameter - for the cylindrical cells laptop power pack makers build into the box-like units notebook users will be familiar with.

Panasonic's offering has a capacity of 3.1Ah. Existing 18650 cells typically have a capacity of up to 2.9Ah, so that's a seven per cent increase in charge with no increase in the power cell's physical size.

The secret? The use of a positive electrode made of nickel, Panasonic said. But the battery also features an insulating metal oxide layer between cathode and anode which, the company claimed, "prevents the battery from overheating even if a short circuit occurs".

By "not explode" clearly by design this does not indicate "won't burn", so it;s obviously still combustible and suffers from heat issues, they just found a way to allow that to dissipate without explosive force. Since Most LiIons that do combust don't acctually "explode" anyway, explain how this is in any way better than LiPo, which are far more difficult to cause to short and combust.

How to find the problem when your Laptop is Failing

Have you ever met the problem when your laptop was going to fail? Perhaps you hear some weird noises coming from the machine. Perhaps your laptop is taking too long to boot up, or maybe the screen is appearing kind of dim. So you need check out where the problem is, below is some guide about it.
Dead Pixels In The Screen. Usually, if you have dead pixels (unlit pixels) in the laptop screen, you can return them to the manufacturer to get a replacement laptop. This depends on the manufacturer's policy though - some of them only replace the laptop if you have more than say, 9 dead pixels across the whole screen. If you suddenly see several dead pixels in the laptop screen, it usually points towards LCD monitor damage, so watch out for this.
Battery Power Runs Out Too Fast. Yet another common problem is a battery that runs out of juice within 10 minutes, even though it is fully charged. The problem here, fortunately, is usually with the battery unit and not the laptop itself. So in these circumstances, get yourself a new battery. In certain cases, it could be due to faulty circuitry in the laptop body, though this is rare.
Memory Problems. Laptop memory modules are also prone to failure. When you boot the laptop up, try to check the amount of memory (RAM) available in the machine. If you know your laptop has 2GB of RAM, then the boot up screen or BIOS should show 2GB of RAM. If it shows less, it means you have a faulty memory module - which slows down your system immensely.
Weird Hard Disk Noises. This is the most worrying sign from a laptop - a claking, or loud whirring sound from the laptop hard disk drive. Usually, a whirring hard disk drive means that the drive is starting to falter or fail. You should immediately back up all your important data! I once heard such noises from the laptop hard drive and within 2 days, the disk had crashed. And this tell tale sign of hard drive failure is usually spot on - so please watch out for this one.

Acer Aspire 5720 AC adapter power supply Troubleshooting

Laptops come with an adapter that plugs in and attaches itself to a little metal electricity conductor inside the computer. These little Acer Aspire 5720 AC Adapter power jacks can easily come undone, leaving your computer to run out of battery. To have this repaired by a professional, it can cost you upwards of one hundred dollars just to have them look at it.If your laptop isn't turning on, it is most likely one of two issues: the power cable or the battery. It is important to attempt to isolate an issue prior to calling customer service, as you will either be able to fix it yourself, or will be able to provide more useful information to the technical support agent.
If you want to fix the Acer Aspire 5720 AC adapter yourself, the following may help you:
Flip your laptop over and remove all of the screws. Be sure to unscrew the ones holding the screen in place. Some screws are different sizes, so keep them sorted in order of where they were removed. Uncover the hard drive housing located at the bottom front of your laptop. The hard drive will be screwed in, so you have to remove those screws before you can take out the hard drive.
Test Electrical Outlet
Plug a different device into the electrical outlet you are using. Occasionally, the issue is not with the laptop at all, but rather a bad Acer Aspire 5720 AC adapter power outlet.
Inspect the Power Cable
Inspect the power cord using vision and touch. Check for any nicks or gashes in the cord, and feel for any possible issues such as a break in the wire inside.
Check Power Cable Connection
Verify that the Acer Aspire 5720 AC adapter power cable is properly plugged into the outlet, the laptop and the transformer box in the middle of the cable, if there is one.
Remove the Battery
Power on the computer with the Acer Aspire 5720 AC adapter power cable plugged in but with the battery removed. This will determine if the battery is the cause of the problem.
Reassemble the computer by putting everything back in the position you unscrewed it from. If, after the computer is back together, your computer does not start, you have probably put the hard drive in backwards. Change an AC Adapter for a Dell Inspiron 1000, How?

PC and mobile devices such as laptops operate off of direct current (DC) energy. Standard household jacks, and almost all businesses in the United States make use of alternating (AC) current. This means that all computers need a special Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter that will temporarily store a charge from the AC current to provide an even flow of energy to the DC input jack. These power supplies are composed of a multi-wire cord connecting to an laptop AC/DC adapter, which then has a single direct-current cord that leads to the laptops DC input jack.
If you really want to repire Dell AC Adapter yourself, follow this steps:
Use the internet to select the proper laptop ac adapter for your computer. Entering the model number of your laptop such as the words "Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter" in a search engine will result in a list of products you can use to replace your faulty power supply.
Disconnect your old Dell AC Adapter from the laptop. This includes the entire power cable and AC/DC adapter. You may be able to reuse the cords of your old unit, such as if they are longer. Assemble the new Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter that you purchased earlier. The AC cord connects to the AC/DC adapter, which connects to the DC cord, which finally connects to the laptop.
Check the light on the AC/DC adapter is lit. This will indicate that the Dell ac adapter is receiving power. You should also check your Windows desktop in the lower right hand toolbar for a power charging icon; it will look like a battery with a lightning bolt flashing on it.
Warning: Before replacing a laptop ac adapters, ensure that it is broken by firmly connecting each piece. If the Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter light comes on, but the battery is not charging, you may have a damaged AC input jack. If this is the case, you will need to contact the laptop manufacturer to have it repaired. Opening or soldering the AC/DC adapter in order to bypass the heat circuit or fuse voids all warranties. This is also extremely dangerous and likely to cause a fire during use. Make sure you are using the correct Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter, or you risk damaging your computer.

Porsche will be offering a starter lithium-ion battery

In the press release that cited the reasoning for the decision, Porsche reveled in the fact that they will be first car maker in the world to offer a starter battery in lithium-ion technology.
“Delivery of power by the lithium-ion battery throughout its useful charge range is likewise significantly better, providing its full power, for example, when starting the engine almost independently of the current charge level. Yet a further benefit is that a lithium-ion battery allows a significantly greater number of charging and discharging cycles, plus the two further advantages that the self-discharging effect is lower and the service life of the battery longer,” said Porsche. “The lithium-ion battery being introduced by Porsche as the pioneer in this area is made up of wound film of carbon and iron phosphate with a ceramic film moisturised by the electrolyte serving as a separating layer in between.
One of the main reasons for this move by Porsche is the weight, or lack thereof, that the lithium-ion battery features. Weighing less than 13 lbs, the new battery is more than 22 lbs lighter than a conventional 60 Ah lead battery. Aside from being lighter than it’s lead counterpart, there were several performance-related statistics mentioned by Porsche as deciding factors.
Compared with other types of lithium-ion batteries using a combination of manganese oxide, cobalt oxide or nickel, this lithium-iron-phosphate battery, as it is called, offers advantages when used as a starter battery. It is robust and consistently guarantees the usual voltage of 12 V in the car’s on-board network.”

Microsoft's new and pricey Wireless N adapter with Xbox 360

It seems like some companies see Microsoft's new and pricey Wireless N adapter for the Xbox 360 as a prime candidate for some competition. One of the first out of the gate is Mad Catz, which has just released its new Wireless-N Gaming Adapter that packs a slightly more reasonable MSRP of $80 (twenty bucks less than Mircosoft's), and should no doubt see even bigger discounts than the official Microsoft option.
As you may have already guessed, however, this one is actually just a standard wireless bridge aimed at the gamer crowd, which just so happens to mean it'll also work just fine with the PlayStation 3 if you're looking to step-up to 802.11n or take advantage of the forthcoming Adhocparty service.
Following the release of Microsoft's improved Wireless N Networking Adapter for Xbox 360, Mad Catz has announced its own wireless adapter, which improves upon Microsoft's device in a couple of ways. First, the adapter, essentially an Ethernet bridge, works with the PS3, allowing for the use of the 802.11n standard with Sony's console.
Second, and most importantly, the Mad Catz adapter improves upon the most reviled feature of the Microsoft model: the price. At $79.99 (£49.99/€59.99 in the UK and Europe), the Mad Catz Wireless-N Gaming Adapter is no impulse buy, but it's exactly twenty dollars better than Microsoft's version. Mad Catz told Joystiq that its device is currently shipping to North American and European retailers and will be available in the company's online store this week.
The OP is talking about using an actual router, not a bridge. You can often use routers, but they usually take a bit more configuration than a bridge. Plus, the OP is also talking about flashing a router with a 3rd party firmware. That step alone will make most consumers say "Screw that" and choose the less complicated option.

How to make good use of laptop power supply universal

Throughout your lifetime, the odds are very good that you will find yourself in need of replacement parts for your laptop or notebook computer. Power chord and laptop ac adapters issues are one of the top reasons for mechanical failure when dealing with portable computers.
The beauty about buying a universal power adapter for your laptop is that when you decide to upgrade to a new laptop, you wont have to worry about having spare incompatible power supply's laying around. You will already have a replacement chord! If you wanted to, you could keep a chord in your car, and one at home. Having a laptop power supply universal will cut down on the wear and tear of future laptops as well!
A big headache that comes with replacing laptop power adapters is that the manufacturers don't make universal replacement parts. The usual procedure when it comes to getting a new chord involves looking up the model of your computer, calling where ever it is you bought it from, purchasing the adapter and then waiting for your power adapter to come in the mail or going down to the store to pick it up. Laptop power supply universal cut out a couple of steps. They are easy to look up and buy online.
Another benefit of buying a universal cord is that there are models which are made to accommodate the difference in international sockets. If you have ever done any traveling to a foreign country where there is a difference in laptop power supply, you will understand what an incredible frustration it is to have traveled so far only to have carried a bunch of necessities that are completely useless to you because you cant plug them in anywhere. There are also laptop ac adapters that are made to plug into your car lighter.
Adapters that can be used with both DC and AC are pretty common as well. The reason why most of us buy laptops in the first place is because they are portable, it only makes sense to make sure that the laptop power supply universal we are using is adaptable to many of the different environments we may find ourselves in. When you consider the fact that you will most likely be replacing your laptop every 2 to 5 years, it makes complete sense that you should be purchasing a laptop power supply universal rather than the specific one that came with your laptop.

Nokia batteries need 'breakthrough'

Lamenting the current state of smartphone battery life, he noted that most high-performance models with large screens do not last more than eight hours of constant usage on a single charge....
HELSINKI--It will take years and a technology "breakthrough on multiple fronts" before the battery lives of smartphones will reach "good" levels, according to the head of Nokia's research center, Henry Tirri.
By "good," Tirri meant phones that can last on a weekly power charge, which will support battery utilization closer to what basic phone models require today, he said at a media interview here Tuesday.
As a present Storm and iPhone 3G owner, and former E62 and 6270 owner the battery life of the few S60/S40 devices absofrickinlutely blow away RIM/Palm/Apple devices. As a road warrior and user of an ATTWS data card I'm seriously looking into picking up an E72 or E71 for tethering to and email notifications - I know that the E devices will outlast my smartphones by at least 2-3 days and I won't feel tethered (no pun) to a battery charger.
Even though I have a desktop cradle to sync and charge my HTC Touch Pro, if I have more than 1 or 2 calls on it the battery won't last until the next morning. Last Sunday morning it was displaying a message about the battery charge being extremely low. I dropped it in the charger and it took the longest amount of time ever to get completely charged, more than 4 and 1/2 hours. I used to get extended life batteries for previous phones, but have yet to find one for this.

Dell Announces World's Thinnest Laptop, Cheaper Adamo

No Adamo announcement can be complete without pitting the upcoming Dell ultraportable against Apple’s MacBook Air, a rival that also serves as a yardstick. Both our contestants weigh just over 3 lbs. While the Adamo XPS is thinner of the two and features 4GB memory compared to the Air’s 2GB, Apple’s ultraportable boasts more power and a longer battery life. Dell plans to have the Adamo XPS ready for action in time for the holidays
Dell has announced the second laptop under its Adamo by Dell brand, which was introduced in March this year. Its latest ultraportable, the Adamo XPS, is slimmer than its predecessor. It will not only replace its elder sibling as the world’s thinnest notebook but also become the cheapest Adamo variant when it debuts with its $1800 price tag. The Adamo XPS is 9.9mm thick and features a 13.4-inch high-definition display, Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4 Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor, 4GB memory, and a full-size keyboard.
Dell launched a teaser site for the newest revision of the Adamo series of laptops, Adamo XPS. The site features little more than a picture of the ultra-thin device and the tag line reading “Crafted to fall in love with at 9.99MM.”
Let’s take a second to do the math: at 9.99MM the Adamo XPS aims to slice the Macbook Air (19.3mm) in half at their respective thinnest points. A remarkable feet no doubt, but Apple took heavy criticism for the features it removed to make Air the thinnest laptop available at the time. One must be wondering, what could possibly fit into the Adamo?
Dell insists this is merely a “design concept” and is holding out on technical specifications and details until a later date. For more other laptop accessories information, you can also visit: Gateway ADP-65HB AC Adapter(ADP-65HB)

Are Thousands of Hours of Non-Stop Power Possible?

The group of scientists estimates that the batteries can be made to be more powerful, as well as rechargeable, within several years; even citing the possibility that this groundbreaking technology could be used for electric vehicle batteries within a decade.
The group of scientists, whose findings are published in the October 2009 issue of Electrochemistry Communications, have apparently developed a a new silicon-air battery capable of supplying non-stop power for thousands of hours without needing to be replaced. As noted in a post by reliableplant, such batteries would be lightweight, have an unlimited shelf life, and have a high tolerance for both humid and extremely dry conditions.
“Silicon-air batteries will be used like the ones already in use today,” says lead researcher Professor Yair Ein-Eli of the Department of Materials Engineering. “But by using silicon – a safe, non-toxic, stable and more common material – we can create verylightweight batteries with infinite shelf life and high energy capacity.”
Silicon-air batteries would provide significant savings in cost and weight because they lack the built-in cathode of conventional batteries. The cathode in silicon-air (and metal-air) batteries is the oxygen that comes from the atmosphere through the membrane. Potential uses include medical applications (for example, powering diabetic pumps or hearing aids), sensors and microelectronics structured from silicon.
A battery that would last for thousands of hours between charges while qualifying as environmentally friendly would truly be considered revolutionary. According to a team of scientists from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, such a battery may become a reality within several years.

Help to Extend Windows 7 Notebook Battery Life

We recently featured an easy to use battery monitoring application called BattCursor for Windows Vista. BattCursor keeps the user well aware of the status of your battery, while also showcasing battery saving features such as automatically dimming the computer display or turning off Aero. BattCursor is also compatible with the new Windows 7, and will be helpful in improving upon the battery saving benefits already allowed by newest version of Windows.
One of the main benefits of the recently released Windows 7 is the reported 10%-20% improvement in battery life brought about by the new program from Microsoft. Still though, even with this reduction in power consumption brought about by Windows 7, any other methods of extending the life of your notebook’s battery are always welcome.
Another way to boost the battery life of notebooks featuring both Windows 7 and Windows Vista is the use of a small tray utility called Aerofoil. Aerofoil will automatically disable the Windows Aero Glass interface and optionally switch Windows Power Plans, Windows Sidebar and sound off when your notebook is running on it’s battery.

Aerofoil extends Windows 7 notebook battery life by:
-Allowing you to manually disable Aero Glass.
-Optionally managing Aero Glass user interface.
-Optionally managing sound muting.
-Optionally managing YOUR chosen power plans.
-Optionally managing Windows Sidebar.
-Optionally showing a quick hibernate button.
-Changing icon color to show your power type.

Gateway's New Notebooks, 8-hour Batteries

In a statement, Acer (who owns Gateway) Senior Manager of Product Marketing, Ray Sawall, said, “The new Gateway EC Series product lines were designed for the many PC users that have embraced the fun and productivity of being able to compute and stay in touch while away from their home or office.” We’ll have to wait and see if consumers agree, but at least this is yet another interesting product offering coinciding with the Windows 7 launch.
Gateway has announced a new thin-and-light notebook lineup for the release of Windows 7 on the 22nd. The series is comprised of the EC58, EC54, and EC14. All will run Windows Home Premium, and will have multitouch trackpads. Gateway is also claiming that all the notebooks are capable of 8 hours of battery life.
The EC58 and EC54 are 15.6 inch laptops with high definition, LED-backlit screens. They run Pentium Dual Core SU4100 series CPUs, offering very low power consumption. They are, however, running an Intel integrated graphics solution. The units will have 4GB of DDR3 RAM loaded as well. The EC14 has a smaller 11.6 inch HD display, LED-backlit, and weighs in at a bit over 3 pounds. Otherwise, the specs are very similar. The EC58/54 will start at $649.99 and the EC14 will go for $549.99.
For the Windows faithful, it’s been a tough eight years. With the launch of Windows XP in 2001, we thought we were poised on a brink of a new world of NT-based goodness—but two years and uncountable exploits later, the future of Windows was grim. Facing a never-ending torrent of new ‘sploits, worms, and trojans, Microsoft fired back with the single greatest operating system update of all time—Service Pack 2.
Of course, we all know how Vista turned out. Haunted by poor performance in everything from games to disk access to networking, Vista is widely considered to be Microsoft’s biggest failure. Nonetheless, Vista laid the groundwork for a host of new technologies, all absolutely vital to pushing Windows into the 21st century.

Asus Eee PC 1201N Could Pave the Way for Other Netbooks

There will also be a less powerful version, the 1201HA, with a standard Atom chipset and Intel graphics in the same 12 inch chassis. No pricing information is available right now. Release date is also a mystery. The fact that they both run Windows 7 indicates they won’t be available until after Windows 7 is released on October 22.
So you want a Netbook, but you’re not crazy about dealing with a slow computer? You’re in luck. The recently leaked specs for the upcoming ASUS Eee PC 1201N should make any geek’s wallet feel a little too heavy. The 1201N is said to be packing a 1.6 GHz Atom N330 Dual Core CPU paired with 3GB of RAM. The standard configuration will have a 320GB hard drive as well.
The thing that really sets it apart is the video. The 1201N will be rocking the Nvidia ION chipset (Geforce 9400M), which will be pumping video to a 12 inch display with a resolution of 1366x768. You can also expect an HDMI out with the ION chipset.
Asus’s Eee PC kicked off the netbook craze in 2007, and now the grandmaster of small-and-shiny returns with its best Eee ever. The 1000HE combines the 901’s extra-long battery life with the power and capacity of the 1002HA (which we reviewed in March), and throws in a nearly MacBook Pro–style full-size chiclet keyboard.
The 1000HE is the first netbook we’ve reviewed with Intel’s new Atom N280 processor, which kicks up the clocks from 1.6GHz to 1.66GHz, and the front-side bus to 667MHz from 533MHz. Other than that, it’s virtually the same hardware as Asus’s other 10-inch models, like the 1002HA. The 1000HE trades the 1002HA’s brushed-aluminum exterior for glossy fingerprint-prone plastic, with the chiclet keyboard supplanting the 1000HA’s more standard keylaptop accessories(laptop accessories )

How to select the right Dell PA-6 AC Adapter

The most obvious time to buy a new Dell PA-6 AC Adapter is when yours can no longer hold a charge for more than an hour. But you may also be someone who knows Dell computers well and likes to make upgrades yourself. If you have an older computer that you've repaired or upgraded with new programs, you may simply need a better Dell PA-6 AC Adapter to keep up.
Not so long ago, when you wanted a new Dell PA-6 AC Adapter, you went to your local electronics store and picked up a standard 300 watt unit. It didn’t matter which one you bought, because they were all virtually the same. They had the same connectors, the same fan in the back, a generic unit for all PC’s. Times have changed. The emergence of higher-wattage Dell ac adapter led to many believing that these systems are better for their computers.
All of the high-tech peripherals and latest editions of computer software products that you’ve installed are useless if your computer’s Dell PA-6 AC Adapter is not sufficiently providing electricity. Many people do not realize the absolute importance of purchasing a laptop ac adapter for their system. It can also be confusing to newcomers because there is also a "adapter" inside your PC - but that is a device that converts A/C power into D/C power and is often measured in watts of Dell PA-6 AC Adapter.
When purchasing a Dell ac adapter, you would perhaps only have one or two options that fit your computer. Choose the Dell PA-6 AC Adapter with the best ever life accessible for your computer. There are numerous different types of laptop ac adapters available; because the technologies of each are quite dissimilar, a laptop should be considered especially for the kind of adapter it uses.
Having a high-quality Dell PA-6 AC Adapter and charger is one of the most important parts of having a personal laptop. Particularly if you propose to take benefit of the Laptop accessories; without a good adapter, your laptop would require to be plugged into the wall more often. So be careful when you purchase a Dell PA-6 AC Adapter. Bellow are some good choice: Compaq DC359A AC Adapter(Input: AC100-240V (worldwide use))

The Most Life of laptop Battery was sucked by The Web Browser

Bet you didn’t realize that upon making the choice of which web browser to use, you’re also making a decision that will greatly affect the battery life of your laptop. It’s true though, and you might be surprised just how much of an impact said browser selection will make on the amount of time you have to be online.
The tech analysis web site AnandTech ran a “browser face-off” to see which browser, among those tested, fared better in the battery preservation department. To do this, three websites were continually loaded on three laptops(a Gateway NV52 and NV58, and an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA), with each computer having their battery tested while running Safari (version 4.0.3), Chrome (version 2.0.172.43), Firefox (version 3.5.2), Internet Explorer (version 8.0.6001.18813), and Opera (versions 9.6.4 and 10 Beta 3) browsers.
With up to a 30% difference in battery life dependant on your choice of web browser, you may want to think twice about who you want to run all of your online activities through. It’s a choice that could end up being the determining factor on whether or not you’ll have those precious minutes of internet time right when you need it most.
Overall, Internet Explorer and Firefox + AdBlock consistently place near the top, with Chrome following closely behind. Opera 10 Beta 3 didn’t do as well as Opera 9.6.4, and in a couple quick tests, it doesn’t appear that the final release of Opera 10 changes the situation at all. Opera in general — version 9 or 10 — looks like it doesn’t do as well as the other major browsers. Safari is at the back, by a large margin, on all three test notebooks. We suspect that Safari 4 does better under OS X, however, so the poor Windows result probably won’t matter to most Safari users.

How to Boost laptop Battery Life

Most notebook manufactures don`t tell all the truth about their machines` battery life. When a notebook manufacturer tells you that their machine will last up to 4-5 hours, never take it at face value. The claim of notebook manufactures might be usually true under ideal circumstances, but we hardly find situations ideal in our day to day life. In order to make sure that the battery of your laptop lasts up to your expectation, there are a number of tips you can follow.
Here are some of the essential guidelines you can follow to take control of your notebook`s battery.
Keep external devices unplugged - It is always advisable to keep your external devices unplugged, be it your PC cards, external speakers, external mouse, Bluetooth or even an attached iPod. These are USB devices that offer much load on the battery power and hence unplug them, when not in use.
Remove the CD/DVD drives when not in use - Avoid leaving CD/DVDs in the drives when you are not using them. This is important because a spinning drive drains away battery power, thus reducing its life. Set the lowest level for screen light - LDC screen lights put immense load on battery power. It is always better to keep the brightness level as low as it is convenient for you. For this, you can use either the Display Settings applet in the Control Panel or the Function key toggles.
Reduce the volume and use of multimedia software - Multimedia software and installed sound schemes are complete drain on battery power. Avoid there usage when not required. Mute the speakers when not listening. All this will result in longer battery life.
Avoid using several programs at a time - Using too many programs at the same time can kill your battery life. Moreover, there are some programs like graphic intensive applications like video games that consume lot of battery power. Try to minimize their use and avoid running multiple programs simultaneously because they will shorten your battery life.
Go for additional RAM - It is often recommended to use adequate RAM to reduce load on the hard drive. Although additional RAM may consume more power, it actually results in over all more savings because it reduces the power consumption requirements of the hard drive.

Lithium-Ion Battery Flights

While many of the major industries around the world are singing praises for lithium-ion batteries and the capabilities and opportunities they present, one major industry in particular has grown weary of a slight risk that has been associated with the ultra-popular battery chemistry.
The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l, the largest pilots union in the world, has called on the U.S. government and Federal Aviation Administration to halt the shipment of lithium-ion batteries, as well as products containing the batteries, from all passenger and cargo planes until new regulations are in place to ensure the safe transport of what they call “hazardous” materials.
Three incidents in particular have been sited among the ALPA’s call for the halt of lithium-ion batteries in cargo and passenger flights. Apparently flights containing e-cigarettes, used batteries, and another that was carrying a shipment of lithium-ion “bicycle-power devices” resulted in fire, smoke, or evidence of fire in just the past two months.
So far the FAA has said they’re isn’t enough evidence to take any immediate action. With that being said, the ALPA says they are prepared to take their battle to congress if their calls for restrictions go unheard.
ALPA calls on the agencies charged with protecting the public from hazardous materials to issue an immediate ban on lithium battery shipments to protect airline passengers, crews and cargo until the proper safety regulations are in place and can be enforced,” said ALPA’s President, Capt. John Prater.

How long does A105-S2071 battery last and how to improve

Many people asked me that how long can a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2071 battery 4400mAh last that is really a common question, so this article will tell you can long can the A105-S2071 battery last and how to improve the laptop battery life span.
Most people buy laptops because they want to be portable. They want to move around the house or work in coffee shops or the library. Unfortunately, you can’t always get as much done as you want to, because you can’t always find a place to plug them in. This isn’t as good as it sounds though. The typical A105-S2071 battery (in a 14 or 15 inch laptop) is a 6-cell battery that lasts around 2 hours. They might last a little longer than that, or a little less. It depends on what you’re doing.
If you are pushing the laptop battery will drain faster. Just think about how you get tired faster when you run than when you walk. Luckily, you’re not stuck with that 2 hours. You have a couple of options.
First, you can always buy a second A105-S2071 battery. Then, when you’re about to run out of juice, just swap batteries. That will give you four hours.
Even better, you can buy a second A105-S2071 battery that’s a larger-capacity than your original Toshiba Laptop Battery. As I said, most batteries that come with laptops are 6-cell batteries. First Recycling Facility for Lithium-Ion Vehicle Batteries

As the majority of the world’s auto industry moves toward all-electric and hybrid vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries, lithium reserves have quickly become a valuable commodity. With China, Russia, and Bolivia holding a majority of these reserves, becoming dependent on these countries for lithium carbonate is a situation everyone else is trying desperately to avoid. To this end, the US Department of Energy has granted $9.5 million to a company in California that plans to build America’s first recycling facility for lithium-ion vehicle batteries.
The recipient of these funds, Anaheim-based Toxco, says it will use the grant money to expand on an existing facility in Lancaster, OH, that already recycles the lead-acid and nickel-metal hydride batteries used in today’s hybrid-electric vehicles. While the need to recycle lithium-ion batteries is fairly minute at the moment, the potential for a dramatic increase in demand on the commodity is becoming more likely by the day.
Toxco is already North America’s leading laptop battery recycler and has been recycling single-charge and rechargeable lithium batteries used in electronics devices and industrial applications since 1992. With such a sterling track record, it comes as no surprise that the Department of Energy is investing in Toxco to reduce America’s potential for dependence on other countries for what appears to be the oil of the future.

Batteries set to become $60 billion industry

So far in 2009, battery companies have received over $600 million in venture capital funding, compared with $478 million garnered for 2008, according to research analyst Lux Research. The investment isn't without reason. In a report released Tuesday, Lux predicted that the energy storage market will grow to become a $60 billion industry by 2013.
But for now, it's hard for even the experts to predict who will emerge as the victorious innovators. Instead of a few key players, there's a plethora of both established and start-up companies developing a wide range of approaches to power storage for things like cars, utilities, and gadgets, according to Lux.
And Lux sees Johnson Controls-Saft and Compact Power as leaders in developing lithium ion batteries for electric hybrid cars. But when it comes to batteries for products like power tools, electric bikes, and portables, the space is wide open. That space is open not only to emerging companies, but also as to which type of battery technology will succeed, according to Lux
"Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), nickel-zinc (NiZn) and even lithium-sulfur (Li-S) and lithium-air (Li-air) batteries are all pitching themselves as lower-cost alternatives," according to the report.
At least one company is already poised to make money off the uncertainty. Lux is offering a service to manufacturers and investors interested in the market. It's dubbed the Lux Innovation Grid, a chart that plots the variables for evaluating companies' battery tech and business models. Firefly Energy's batteries are still using one of the oldest technologies, lead-acid, not exactly a green battery. They should be more innovative and find a less toxic solution.

Some F4812A battery care tips and advice

Retaining the quality of your Compaq F4812A battery will save you a fair amount of money in the long run, so I would like to take a moment and offer some tips and advice on laptop battery care and how you can optimize the life and charge of your HP laptop battery to enable you to keep that cash in your pocket for as long as possible.
The first thing to mention for F4812A battery care would be a proper charge cycle, a correctly maintained HP laptop battery can retain up to 80% of it´s full capacity for 400 full charge and discharge cycles, therefore it is important to not overcharge, or undercharge the laptop battery whenever possible. Allowing your F4812A battery to run completely flat once in a while is great, but at other times allow it to run as low as possible before charging it again, and when you do charge try to achieve the maximum charge replacing full life back into the battery.
Allow the F4812A battery to breathe - if you are charging your HP Laptop Battery in some carrying cases they tend to generate excessive heat which can affect the capacity of your laptop battery, if you are aware that your laptop is becoming warm during it´s charge remove it from it´s case prior to commencing the charge.
And one last pointer, is try to generate regular use from your laptop, the lithium-based batteries perform better when the electrons are kept active inside, and make sure that whatever happens with your charging the F4812A battery receives your full care by giving it a minimum of one full charge (100% of the battery life) per month.
