PC and mobile devices such as laptops operate off of direct current (DC) energy. Standard household jacks, and almost all businesses in the United States make use of alternating (AC) current. This means that all computers need a special Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter that will temporarily store a charge from the AC current to provide an even flow of energy to the DC input jack. These power supplies are composed of a multi-wire cord connecting to an laptop AC/DC adapter, which then has a single direct-current cord that leads to the laptops DC input jack.
If you really want to repire Dell AC Adapter yourself, follow this steps:
Use the internet to select the proper laptop ac adapter for your computer. Entering the model number of your laptop such as the words "Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter" in a search engine will result in a list of products you can use to replace your faulty power supply.
Disconnect your old Dell AC Adapter from the laptop. This includes the entire power cable and AC/DC adapter. You may be able to reuse the cords of your old unit, such as if they are longer. Assemble the new Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter that you purchased earlier. The AC cord connects to the AC/DC adapter, which connects to the DC cord, which finally connects to the laptop.
Check the light on the AC/DC adapter is lit. This will indicate that the Dell ac adapter is receiving power. You should also check your Windows desktop in the lower right hand toolbar for a power charging icon; it will look like a battery with a lightning bolt flashing on it.
Warning: Before replacing a laptop ac adapters, ensure that it is broken by firmly connecting each piece. If the Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter light comes on, but the battery is not charging, you may have a damaged AC input jack. If this is the case, you will need to contact the laptop manufacturer to have it repaired. Opening or soldering the AC/DC adapter in order to bypass the heat circuit or fuse voids all warranties. This is also extremely dangerous and likely to cause a fire during use. Make sure you are using the correct Dell Inspiron 1000 AC Adapter, or you risk damaging your computer.

Porsche will be offering a starter lithium-ion battery
In the press release that cited the reasoning for the decision, Porsche reveled in the fact that they will be first car maker in the world to offer a starter battery in lithium-ion technology.
“Delivery of power by the lithium-ion battery throughout its useful charge range is likewise significantly better, providing its full power, for example, when starting the engine almost independently of the current charge level. Yet a further benefit is that a lithium-ion battery allows a significantly greater number of charging and discharging cycles, plus the two further advantages that the self-discharging effect is lower and the service life of the battery longer,” said Porsche. “The lithium-ion battery being introduced by Porsche as the pioneer in this area is made up of wound film of carbon and iron phosphate with a ceramic film moisturised by the electrolyte serving as a separating layer in between.
One of the main reasons for this move by Porsche is the weight, or lack thereof, that the lithium-ion battery features. Weighing less than 13 lbs, the new battery is more than 22 lbs lighter than a conventional 60 Ah lead battery. Aside from being lighter than it’s lead counterpart, there were several performance-related statistics mentioned by Porsche as deciding factors.
Compared with other types of lithium-ion batteries using a combination of manganese oxide, cobalt oxide or nickel, this lithium-iron-phosphate battery, as it is called, offers advantages when used as a starter battery. It is robust and consistently guarantees the usual voltage of 12 V in the car’s on-board network.”

Microsoft's new and pricey Wireless N adapter with Xbox 360
It seems like some companies see Microsoft's new and pricey Wireless N adapter for the Xbox 360 as a prime candidate for some competition. One of the first out of the gate is Mad Catz, which has just released its new Wireless-N Gaming Adapter that packs a slightly more reasonable MSRP of $80 (twenty bucks less than Mircosoft's), and should no doubt see even bigger discounts than the official Microsoft option.
As you may have already guessed, however, this one is actually just a standard wireless bridge aimed at the gamer crowd, which just so happens to mean it'll also work just fine with the PlayStation 3 if you're looking to step-up to 802.11n or take advantage of the forthcoming Adhocparty service.
Following the release of Microsoft's improved Wireless N Networking Adapter for Xbox 360, Mad Catz has announced its own wireless adapter, which improves upon Microsoft's device in a couple of ways. First, the adapter, essentially an Ethernet bridge, works with the PS3, allowing for the use of the 802.11n standard with Sony's console.
Second, and most importantly, the Mad Catz adapter improves upon the most reviled feature of the Microsoft model: the price. At $79.99 (£49.99/€59.99 in the UK and Europe), the Mad Catz Wireless-N Gaming Adapter is no impulse buy, but it's exactly twenty dollars better than Microsoft's version. Mad Catz told Joystiq that its device is currently shipping to North American and European retailers and will be available in the company's online store this week.
The OP is talking about using an actual router, not a bridge. You can often use routers, but they usually take a bit more configuration than a bridge. Plus, the OP is also talking about flashing a router with a 3rd party firmware. That step alone will make most consumers say "Screw that" and choose the less complicated option.

How to make good use of laptop power supply universal
Throughout your lifetime, the odds are very good that you will find yourself in need of replacement parts for your laptop or notebook computer. Power chord and laptop ac adapters issues are one of the top reasons for mechanical failure when dealing with portable computers.
The beauty about buying a universal power adapter for your laptop is that when you decide to upgrade to a new laptop, you wont have to worry about having spare incompatible power supply's laying around. You will already have a replacement chord! If you wanted to, you could keep a chord in your car, and one at home. Having a laptop power supply universal will cut down on the wear and tear of future laptops as well!
A big headache that comes with replacing laptop power adapters is that the manufacturers don't make universal replacement parts. The usual procedure when it comes to getting a new chord involves looking up the model of your computer, calling where ever it is you bought it from, purchasing the adapter and then waiting for your power adapter to come in the mail or going down to the store to pick it up. Laptop power supply universal cut out a couple of steps. They are easy to look up and buy online.
Another benefit of buying a universal cord is that there are models which are made to accommodate the difference in international sockets. If you have ever done any traveling to a foreign country where there is a difference in laptop power supply, you will understand what an incredible frustration it is to have traveled so far only to have carried a bunch of necessities that are completely useless to you because you cant plug them in anywhere. There are also laptop ac adapters that are made to plug into your car lighter.
Adapters that can be used with both DC and AC are pretty common as well. The reason why most of us buy laptops in the first place is because they are portable, it only makes sense to make sure that the laptop power supply universal we are using is adaptable to many of the different environments we may find ourselves in. When you consider the fact that you will most likely be replacing your laptop every 2 to 5 years, it makes complete sense that you should be purchasing a laptop power supply universal rather than the specific one that came with your laptop.

Nokia batteries need 'breakthrough'
Lamenting the current state of smartphone battery life, he noted that most high-performance models with large screens do not last more than eight hours of constant usage on a single charge....
HELSINKI--It will take years and a technology "breakthrough on multiple fronts" before the battery lives of smartphones will reach "good" levels, according to the head of Nokia's research center, Henry Tirri.
By "good," Tirri meant phones that can last on a weekly power charge, which will support battery utilization closer to what basic phone models require today, he said at a media interview here Tuesday.
As a present Storm and iPhone 3G owner, and former E62 and 6270 owner the battery life of the few S60/S40 devices absofrickinlutely blow away RIM/Palm/Apple devices. As a road warrior and user of an ATTWS data card I'm seriously looking into picking up an E72 or E71 for tethering to and email notifications - I know that the E devices will outlast my smartphones by at least 2-3 days and I won't feel tethered (no pun) to a battery charger.
Even though I have a desktop cradle to sync and charge my HTC Touch Pro, if I have more than 1 or 2 calls on it the battery won't last until the next morning. Last Sunday morning it was displaying a message about the battery charge being extremely low. I dropped it in the charger and it took the longest amount of time ever to get completely charged, more than 4 and 1/2 hours. I used to get extended life batteries for previous phones, but have yet to find one for this.

Dell Announces World's Thinnest Laptop, Cheaper Adamo
No Adamo announcement can be complete without pitting the upcoming Dell ultraportable against Apple’s MacBook Air, a rival that also serves as a yardstick. Both our contestants weigh just over 3 lbs. While the Adamo XPS is thinner of the two and features 4GB memory compared to the Air’s 2GB, Apple’s ultraportable boasts more power and a longer battery life. Dell plans to have the Adamo XPS ready for action in time for the holidays
Dell has announced the second laptop under its Adamo by Dell brand, which was introduced in March this year. Its latest ultraportable, the Adamo XPS, is slimmer than its predecessor. It will not only replace its elder sibling as the world’s thinnest notebook but also become the cheapest Adamo variant when it debuts with its $1800 price tag. The Adamo XPS is 9.9mm thick and features a 13.4-inch high-definition display, Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4 Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor, 4GB memory, and a full-size keyboard.
Dell launched a teaser site for the newest revision of the Adamo series of laptops, Adamo XPS. The site features little more than a picture of the ultra-thin device and the tag line reading “Crafted to fall in love with at 9.99MM.”
Let’s take a second to do the math: at 9.99MM the Adamo XPS aims to slice the Macbook Air (19.3mm) in half at their respective thinnest points. A remarkable feet no doubt, but Apple took heavy criticism for the features it removed to make Air the thinnest laptop available at the time. One must be wondering, what could possibly fit into the Adamo?
Dell insists this is merely a “design concept” and is holding out on technical specifications and details until a later date. For more other laptop accessories information, you can also visit: Gateway ADP-65HB AC Adapter(ADP-65HB)

Are Thousands of Hours of Non-Stop Power Possible?
The group of scientists estimates that the batteries can be made to be more powerful, as well as rechargeable, within several years; even citing the possibility that this groundbreaking technology could be used for electric vehicle batteries within a decade.
The group of scientists, whose findings are published in the October 2009 issue of Electrochemistry Communications, have apparently developed a a new silicon-air battery capable of supplying non-stop power for thousands of hours without needing to be replaced. As noted in a post by reliableplant, such batteries would be lightweight, have an unlimited shelf life, and have a high tolerance for both humid and extremely dry conditions.
“Silicon-air batteries will be used like the ones already in use today,” says lead researcher Professor Yair Ein-Eli of the Department of Materials Engineering. “But by using silicon – a safe, non-toxic, stable and more common material – we can create verylightweight batteries with infinite shelf life and high energy capacity.”
Silicon-air batteries would provide significant savings in cost and weight because they lack the built-in cathode of conventional batteries. The cathode in silicon-air (and metal-air) batteries is the oxygen that comes from the atmosphere through the membrane. Potential uses include medical applications (for example, powering diabetic pumps or hearing aids), sensors and microelectronics structured from silicon.
A battery that would last for thousands of hours between charges while qualifying as environmentally friendly would truly be considered revolutionary. According to a team of scientists from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, such a battery may become a reality within several years.
